Organ and Tissue Donation - Discuss, Decide, Discover
Our June social dinner had two guest speakers on the subject of organ donation. John Gleeson was the recipient of a kidney donation several years ago. He kindly shared his story with us and the heartbreak he endured when his son was involved in an horrific accident.
Denyse Norman from DonateLife provided information from the the other side of organ donation - the giving. She told us what the requirements were for donations and encouraged us to talk to our families and let them know what our wishes are.
Soroptimist Awarded awarded the Member of the Order of Australia Medal
We are delighted that Soroptimist and friend Margaret Lobo has been awarded the prestigious Member of the Order of Australia medal for her services to our organisation.
We are justly proud of Margaret’s achievements. They are accompanied by a selfless, gentle and sympathetic approach to everything she tackles, along with a wicked sense of humour
Margaret is a member of Soroptimist International Perth, which she joined in September 1975. During that time she has held many positions within our organisation. President of her own club, President of the Region of Western Australia, President of the South West Pacific Federation and, most recently, as our International President for two years up until August 2009.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go to our member, WA Region past President and current Federation Programme Director, Robyn Cain and her family, on the sudden passing of Ron, her husband of 40 years.
Apart from supporting Robyn in her various roles within our Soroptimist organisation, Ron actively participated in many of our club and region events as a ‘Soroptimister’ over the years. He undertook to produce our Region member directory for a couple of years until the database was operational, and was our honorary club auditor for some years until 2008.
He was known for his cheeky sense of humour and will be sadly missed by all.
